Chef Selassie Atadika
Our Chef
Selassie Atadika is the founder and chef behind Midunu.
A Ghanaian chef, educator, and food systems thinker, Selassie returned home to Ghana in 2014 after more than a decade working in humanitarian and development contexts around the world. Her culinary perspective has been shaped by travel across more than 40 African countries, formal training at the Culinary Institute of America, and a lifelong engagement with food as culture, memory, and power.
Selassie is widely recognized for advancing New African Cuisine — a contemporary expression of African foodways rooted in sustainability, storytelling, and value at origin. Her work has been featured by international media and institutions, and her cuisine has been served in settings ranging from intimate private tables to global cultural platforms. In 2025, she was honored with a TIME Earth Award for her work at the intersection of food systems, sustainability, and cultural heritage.
At Midunu, Selassie cooks with curiosity and restraint, allowing ingredients, place, and conversation to lead. Guests come for the food — and often stay for the exchange.
